✅ A Checklist Before Granting a Cowork Automation Access to Your Files and Calendar
Because Cowork pulls from files, folders, and applications without needing constant prompting, the access it's granted matters more than for a tool you're actively supervising turn by turn. Before connecting a new data source:
- Grant the narrowest scope that completes the task — full calendar read/write access for a task that only needs to check availability is over-granting.
- Separate personal and work contexts where the underlying platform allows it — a work-scoped automation shouldn't default to reading personal email too.
- Revisit connected sources periodically — the same staleness problem that applies to API keys and MCP servers applies here: a connection made for a one-off task can quietly persist long after that task is done.
